Returning to further cement their status as one of Australia’s most enduring musical success stories, Hilltop Hoods have unveiled new music that once again highlights the group’s talent when it comes to balancing personal songwriting with addictive, entertaining delivery.
New single ‘Show Business’ follows on from 2020’s charity release ‘I’m Good?’, and sees the Hoods collaborate with US soul singer, Eamon.
Production from One Above enhances that quintessential Hilltop Hoods sound that fans worldwide know and love from the Adelaide trio: melodic and elevated production that perfectly buoys the unique flows of both Pressure and Suffa MC.
At its core, ‘Show Business’ is about the repercussions and trials of navigating a career and life within the music industry and the public eye.
The ups are all the way up, but the downs can be crushing. Priorities shift and galvanise as we move into different phases of our lives and for Hilltop Hoods, each member has individually found themselves needing to move differently as each wave of life came crashing through: marriage, parenthood, work hustle, a pandemic.
“The idea for ‘Show Business’ came from something my buddy Dools used to say to me whenever he’d call me on the road. I’d inevitably be stuck at a gas station in the middle of nowhere with a hangover whenever he’d call, weeks away from getting home and he’d always laugh and say ‘What, and quit show business?’ The downs can be quite serious in the music business, particularly over the last two years, but the ups make it worth it.” – Suffa MC
The project has also reunited Hilltop Hoods with filmmaker Nash Edgerton (Blue Tongue Films, Mr Inbetween), who directed the ‘Show Business’ music video. Last collaborating on the official video for ‘I Love It’ (2011), Edgerton was able to capture magic onscreen with the Hoods and their cast of young actors.
“This is probably my favourite clip of ours, despite looking like a serial killer dressed as a clown. Nash Edgerton killed it, we were super pumped he agreed to do another clip with us after working on ‘I Love It’ with him.” – Pressure
The release of ‘Show Business’ officially marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Hilltop Hoods, as the focus now turns to their long awaited new project: their first studio album since 2019’s The Great Expanse.
New music coinciding with the trio’s return to live touring in Australia, courtesy of major festival appearances at 2022’s Yours & Owls Festival and Groovin The Moo Tour and Darwin’s Bassinthegrass festival signals that the Hoods are primed and ready to remind nationwide audiences of their impact.
Hilltop Hoods have long been synonymous with Australian-made triumphs. Trailblazers in a genre that eventually married the underground with commercial success, setting a blueprint for waves of contemporaries to follow, the group’s legacy is undeniable.
The labels are numerous: “Platinum Selling”, “Multi-ARIA Winning”, “Sold Out Arena Tours” – yet at the end of the day, Hilltop Hoods’ resolve remains the same. The music they make is done with the intent to connect and last with fans, regardless of age, background or creed; time and time again, their formula pays dividends and then some.
